The latest survey report on Southport Pier has been received and published at Sefton Council website. Link to full report below.

The 78 page report does not make great reading with recommendatios that the steelwork is systematically dismantled and taken off site to allow the steelwork to be cleaned via a wet grit blasting process to remove all the existing surface coating, and in the process the embedded salts, prior to repairing the steel by welding in new plates, angles to reinstate the full section.

Pictures included in the report add to the grim reading.

Costings for such work are yet to be completed. Sefton indicated that costs in addition the £3m earmarked for replacement decking other work could cost a further £10m.

The recent survey was awarded to AE Yates at a cost of £400,000 who subcontracted it to Thomasons who completed the previous survey last year.
